Bobby was a newborn Chihuahua dog. He was only two days old when his mom was hit by a car and killed in Detroit, Michigan.
Thankfully, Michigan Humane Society stepped in to find a solution. They knew he had to be placed with someone who would nurse and raise him in order for him to have the best chance of survival.
Like human babies, kittens and puppies need their mother’s care to survive, and mother’s milk will help them grow healthy and strong. Unfortunately, there were no lactating dogs in the shelter at that time, so they needed to find an alternative.
The mother they found just happened to be a cat named Gwen.
Ryan McTigue, a spokesperson for the Humane Society said, “It’s a misconception that cats and dogs can’t get along, and as we see at the Michigan Humane Society, they can often become loving family members. Mother cat Gwen’s acceptance of Bobby as an addition to her litter of kittens is a wonderful example of that!”
Love is love and family is family, and that is certainly true of this mama cat that welcomed him into her family with open paws.
