It’s scary and stressful for any of us to have surgery. Ruby the dog was agitated and nervous, and was about to be spayed at Colorado’s Fox Hollow Animal Hospital.
I’m sure she didn’t really understand she was going to have surgery, but she didn’t recognize her surroundings. Everything was different and she knew something was about to happen, and she wanted no part of it.
Her veterinarian, Dr. Ross Henderson, could tell just how nervous she was so he took matters into his own hands to calm her.
Dr. Ross pulled out his guitar and got down on the floor with the dog in his lap and did one of the sweetest things we’ve ever seen.
He sang her Elvis Presley’s song, “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
Dr. Ross practices with his father, Anthony Henderson, and brother Ryan. All three are veterinarians.
Dr. Ross has always wanted to be a veterinarian and he’s always loved singing and playing the guitar, and so this is a perfect way to combine the two.
Dr. Ross believes the music and the individual attention helps the dogs feel calmer and safer while they are in the strange surroundings of the hospital. After all, sometimes a hospital can be a scary place to be.
He feels he owes these pets whatever he can do to make them feel better while they are under his care.
