Hope and Hunter are therapy dogs who both spend about 40 hours a week bringing joy and comfort to the children at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
They’re both good at their jobs and are incredibly helpful to the kids who are scared and lonely in the hospital.
But when the two dogs first met in 2015, they quickly fell for each other. There’s a special energy about them.
Missy Stover, the hospital’s Child Life volunteer and therapeutic programs manager recognized their bond as more than just puppy love. The two dogs are regulars at the hospital and the children at the hospital love seeing them interact together.
So Missy had an idea to make the dogs’ romance official. She proposed the idea of hosting a wedding ceremony for the two adorable dogs.
The dogs’ handlers thought it was a great idea. Aimee Hofflander, Hunter’s handler, admitted to pre-wedding jitters, but when the big day finally came, the groom was cool and collected.
Dressed in a dapper bow-tie collar, Hunter waited patiently for his bride at the end of the aisle. In true bride fashion, Hope, wearing a white dress and veil stole the show. She walked down the aisle to the song, “Chapel of Love.”
The wedding guests included 60 hospital patients and staffers, and was held in the Mercy Lisa Barth Chapel on Ma 18th. The wedding was also live streamed for those children who were confined to their hospital beds.
