Generally it takes months of rigorous training for a police puppy to become an official K-9 cop. But Xerife (Portuguese for “sheriff,” a dog who adopted a police unit in Petropolis, Brazil decided to bypass all that and hire himself.

One day the dog just showed up at the police department as if to say, “Reporting for duty, sir!” He instantly became one of the team. He knows where he belongs, and he refuses to take no for an answer.

One officer tried to take the dog home and adopt him as his pet, but the dog escaped and went right back to the police station.

The police department made a little house for the dog and they treat him like family. And the dog is incredibly loyal to everyone on the police team.

As the cops go about their business, the dog stays close to them, making sure everything goes smoothly and safely.

But the job this dog loves most is helping to keep his fellow officers up-to-date on their police skills, in particular the pat-down search.

With violence increasing in the world, it’s especially important for officers to be highly skilled and alert at all times.
