Cristiano Ronaldo, a European soccer star from the Real Madrid club, stepped in to help 80 dogs that needed special medical treatment.
The Cantinho da Lili is a shelter in Gouveia, Portugal was struggling due to the high cost of medical treatment that it’s dogs needed.
The shelter was going to have to close if it didn’t find some way to alleviate its financial problems.
One of the kennel’s volunteers, Gloria Carvalho, apparently had a connection to Ronaldo and told him about the problems the shelter was facing.
As soon as he heard about the shelter, Ronaldo immediately stepped up and donated a signed jersey, which the kennel could auction off.
Ronaldo has a very generous nature, and has often been praised for his charity work. In fact, in August 2015 he was named the “World’s Most Charitable Athlete” after having donated hundreds of thousands and helping raise millions more.
It was such a simple gesture, but one that made such a great difference. He had no obligation to do something like this, but he did. The shelter is overwhelmed with gratitude for his generous act.
Liliana Santos, the owner of the shelter said, “I want to thank Ronaldo from the bottom of my heart. It’s a simple gesture, but very important.”
The profits from auctioning the jersey will help keep Cantinho da Lili up and running.
That was a very special thing Ronaldo did. Please be sure to SHARE this story with all your dog-loving Facebook friends!
