When Blossom, the 7-month-old Pit Bull mix dog, was brought into North Shore Animal League America, she was extremely malnourished and emaciated.
It was easy to see that this dog wouldn’t have survived much longer on the streets. If you looked into her eyes, you’d see nothing but innocence. But physically she was in dire condition.
Her rib cage protruded through her skin, her legs, hips, and backside were almost all skin and bones.
She also suffered from demodectic mange, which caused skin lesions and resulted in bald patches on the skin. Her coat was so thin that it looked like her skeleton would puncture through it any time.
A Good Samaritan who had found her wandering the streets brought her in to the shelter. Nobody knows exactly how she got in that situation or what her life was like before that. But it was obvious she hadn’t had food or been cared for in quite awhile.
But even considering the condition the dog was in, the first thing she did was wag her tail and give kisses to the medical team. She was such a gentle soul, and was extremely grateful that these people were helping her.
