Tracey McMenamy is a dog lover and foster parent for the rescue organization Operation Paws for Homes. Tracey is also the wife of a police officer who has been in the department for 12 years.
It’s scary to be the wife of a police officer – especially these days. Tracey loves her husband, and it’s always in the back of her mind that one day he might not come home. According to ABC, this year 16 officers have already been killed in the line of duty.
“As a wife, it’s scary for me that we’ve lost that many police officers,” Tracey said.
Tracey has successfully fostered over 100 dogs since 2013. While every foster situation is unique, she recently had a rescue dog, a German Pointer mix, give birth to a litter of 10 puppies.
Tracey and her husband decided to combine their two passions – dog fostering and police work – when they named the 10 puppies.
They wanted to do something really special, so they named each and every one of them after a fallen officer.
Sadly, there are more fallen officers than puppies, but Tracey is happy that this small gesture is at least helping the families of these officers heal.
