Michigan doesn’t have the best weather for homeless dogs living on the streets. Sometimes dogs will resort to desperate measures to stay warm and safe. In this case, an unlikely-yet-beautiful friendship formed as a result of the cold.
Michigan Humane society rescue driver, Chris Ouwerkerk, received a call that a puppy had been left out in the rain near an abandoned house. As usual, he moved quickly, jumped in his van and drove out to where the puppy was supposed to be.
But what he found was anything but usual.
When he got there, he saw the puppy hiding between two trashcans. He called to the puppy, and he came running out.
When Chris picked up the puppy, he heard frantic meowing. After investigating further, he found a kitten hidden between the two trashcans. His meowing was probably a cry to not take her only friend.
Chris figures the puppy and kitten had been snuggling together to stay warm and protected from the wind and the rain.
Chris took the two back to the shelter where they were examined, given vaccines, and scanned for microchips.
