A little boy named Eli Alcock was just three years old when he wandered away from his Lorien, Louisiana house. His mother, Lindsy, was terrified she would never see her son again.
Lindsy says she looked away for just a second and her son disappeared alone into the woods. She frantically searched for him in the normal places. Not finding him, she started freaking out.
Not knowing what to do, Lindsy turned to her community for help.
“Imagining never seeing him again… never hearing him again. Just the reality of what was happening, I mean, it was hard,” Lindsy told NBC News.
The thought of that was freaking her out, so they started calling the sheriff’s department, and got on Facebook asking people to come and help look.
Doug Downs was also contacted to see if he could help. Doug was a local pastor, and his trusty bloodhound dog, Honey, has quite a reputation for her keen sense of smell.
“The pressure was on,” he said, because while Honey had a keen nose, she had never tracked humans before. Doug thought it was a long shot, but he wasn’t going to say “no” to a mother or her lost child.
So Doug and Honey got to work. They searched for hours without any luck. And then finally, the little boy was found safe and sound in the woods.
