We’ve all heard of dog rescue, but what happens when the rescue program is for humans? These poor humans can be chained to a desk or locked in a cubicle all day and need help.
For many people, this is their daily life. Animal shelters are stepping up to help them. This started with a dog shelter in Melbourne, Australia called the Lost Dogs Home.
When their adoption ads started losing traction, they decided to try a new approach. They decided to help people by allowing them to have a lunch hour walk with a rescue dog. This was called the Human Walking Program.
It’s a wonderful idea where the dogs are doing the rescuing. It gets people out of their office and away from their daily routine. It gives them a reason and an opportunity to get some fresh air and some exercise during their lunch break.
This program helped change the way people see shelter dogs. It’s a great opportunity for people to see the amazing dogs that are just looking for a home and a family to love them. And you never know… you might just find a match made in heaven.
The Lost Dogs Home held this event over a three-hour lunch timeframe. It was a fun time for all, and office workers came out from cubicles for a quick walk and a chance to meet a dog or two. According to the video below, more than 5,000 office workers were rescued, and every dog was adopted.
This idea is really starting to grow around the world. I saw another video where the Denver Animal Shelter was doing the same thing. And others are springing up. Look for a program like this in your area.
Here’s to rescuing more and more people with the help of dogs!
