Zuzi was a homeless dog who was living in a parking lot. She had been living on the streets for years. Many times, local dogcatchers tried to catch her with some pretty aggressive methods.
Zuzi was terrified and traumatized by these experiences. She wouldn’t let anybody get close to her. She was so traumatized that whenever anybody paid any attention to her, she panicked and ran away.
This is common with homeless dogs. After living on the streets, not knowing any kindness from humans, and sleeping in the cold, these dogs can be vary wary of people.
Howl of A Dog is a small nonprofit animal rescue organization which aims to rescue abandoned, neglected and abused dogs from the streets or from local kill-shelters and to find them suitable and loving homes. They heard about her and came to see what they could do.
It was difficult to even get close to her because every time they did, she would start to bark defensively and even tried to bite. She didn’t trust anyone.
The employees in a nearby business told them about the dog catchers who chased her with catchpoles, so they knew that wasn’t going to be an option.
So they called in a veterinarian and decided the best solution would be to administer a tranquilizer.
