Kathleen eventually found a loving couple willing to adopt all three dogs. Another San Juan Island resident named Danielle Cochran heard about the story and went straight over to Kathleen’s house and knocked on the door.

As soon as Kathleen saw her dogs connect with Danielle, Danielle’s husband, and their other two dogs, she knew she had found the right family.

I feel really, really, really relieved and great about it,” Kathleen said. “But on the other hand it’s heartbreaking.”

The two younger dogs, Mona and Finnegan, slowly transitioned to their new home with the Cochrans. Autumn, the oldest of the three dogs, will stay with Kathleen until her time comes.

Reflecting on her life with her dogs, Kathleen noted, “I got everything I wanted, except for the dying part.
