Bear is a Labrador-chow crossbreed dog who was left chained to a rickety doghouse outside his owner’s house in Long Island, New York for 15 years.
When Guardians of Rescue heard about the situation, they went to check it out. They received a call about a dog in need of a doghouse. But when they got there it was even worse.
The dog had a heavy chain around his neck and he was outside enduring the harsh winter conditions. And he was receiving little care from his owner.
Robert Misseri, President of Guardians of Rescue said, “We knew that we had to do something to make a difference in that dog’s life.” So they stepped in.
According to Robert, the owners weren’t necessarily bad people. They had indoor pets, and when they got Bear as a puppy, they made him an outside dog protecting the property.
He was pretty much a guard dog.
After dropping off a new doghouse, Robert asked the owners if they could take the dog. Then the owners surrendered the dog to them the next day.
Robert said, “But they did the right thing [surrendering Bear] and now he’s being shown things he’s never seen before and the time he has left can be a special treat.”
