Dogs are amazing!  They somehow manage to know when things aren’t quite right.  Jack, a one-year-old Labrador/German shepherd mix dog was no different.  He was a hero.

This house belonged to Aubrey Lomax Jr.  He had lived there for 30 years, and currently resided with his three grown children, one of their girlfriends, and his three young grandchildren.

All seven of the family were asleep about 3:30am when a fire broke out inside the house.

The fire had started in a bedroom in the back of the house.  Since everybody was asleep, nobody knew what was going on.

Jack sensed that something was wrong and so he went to work to wake up his family members.  He started licking their faces, desperate to get someone to wake up.

Finally, Aubrey’s son’s girlfriend woke up and when she saw what was happening, she started screaming and getting everyone out of bed.

They all got out of the house unharmed thanks to this smart little dog.

Unfortunately the house didn’t fare quite as well.  It was burned quite badly.  The family didn’t have insurance, so a GoFundMe page was setup to take donations.

One of their two cats was killed in the fire.  Jack and the surviving cat were taken to the Red Paw Emergency Relief, which is like a Red Cross for animals.  They will be kept safe until the family is on their feet and can taken the animals back again.  It was tough because Jack didn’t want to leave his family.

But what an amazing story!  He saved the lives of seven people.  He’s a hero!
