Gumby is a 7-year-old hound dog who lives at the Charleston Animal Society. Although they have tried to adopt him out many times, the dog always came back. Apparently that’s the place he wanted to call home.
The dog has been adopted out seven times from the Charleston Animal Society, picked up as a stray three times and surrendered eight times. Every time he left the shelter, it was only a matter of time until he returned.
The dog was originally picked up as a stray. The first time the dog was adopted, he stayed in his new home only three days. He doubled that and spent six days at his second home.
When he was adopted for the third time, the dog kept escaping and wound up back at the shelter four times. You have to wonder why he just couldn’t seem to feel like he belonged at any of these loving homes.
His fourth, fifth, and sixth adoptions pretty much ended the same way. Every time the dog escaped and came back to the Charleston Animal Society.
He seem bound and determined to escape from whatever home he was placed in and always came running back to the shelter. The Charleston Animal Society started calling him Houdini.
A typical Hound mix, Gumby is lanky, tall, and extremely energetic. But in her 23 years of working at the shelter Kay Hyman, the Director of Community and Engagement for the Charleston Animal Society, has never seen a dog with Gumby’s escape skills.
