People chain their dogs outside for a variety of reasons. Some people believe that dogs should live outside, rather than in their house.
Maybe he digs up the garden, or he’s grown to big to be in the house. Maybe he’s tied up because he manages to escape the yard. Or maybe the dog is tied up outside to protect the home (except I don’t know how he can protect anything if he’s tied up).
Thankfully, les and less people are leaving their dogs outside tethered to a chain. Many communities are starting to become more aware and have passed laws prohibiting this.
Dogs are pack animals and for thousands of years, they have been bred to form a strong bond to a human family.
Imagine being chained to a tree or a doghouse in your backyard. It gets hot, it rains, it gets cold, and you have to go to the bathroom right there where you’re sleeping…
You see everyone else moving around as much as they please. They’re not tethered. They’re happy and carefree. Can you imagine what that would feel like?
It’s no different for a dog.
If a dog is left alone, tied up outside, many times he’ll become very lonely, unhappy, anxious, and even aggressive. Think about it, dogs need love and attention just like humans do.
