Going to court can be scary and stressful no matter who you are. But for children it can be even worse. Many times children have already had enough trauma in their lives. The K9 Circuit Program was designed to help them.
Can you imagine being a young child who has already been terribly abused? You are already terrified of the person who hurt you, and now you have to go into a courtroom and testify against that person.
The person who hurt the child is right there in the room with them. And sometimes the glares from the offender will cause a child to change their story out of fear.
The K9 Circuit Program was designed to protect these children, and the dogs they employ are some of the most special dogs on the planet.
One of the dogs in the program is Karl. This dog was born deaf, but he knows American Sign Language. He dame to the program from an organization called Companions for Courage in Orlando, Florida.
Karl’s job is to sit with the children during their court experience. He helps calm them down and provide much-needed support.
