A six-year-old boy who cannot speak and a deaf dog are a “match made in heaven.”
Connor Guillet is nonverbal and speaks only through sign language. He was born addicted to opiates, and has since been diagnosed with damage to his brain, as well as some other issues including autism. He was adopted at four weeks old.
He doesn’t speak, and it’s not known at this time whether he ever will be able to. He struggles with motor skills, and sign language tends to be difficult for him but this is the way he communicates.
His mom was attending a dog adoption event and heard that Ellie, a deaf boxer, also knows sign language.
She was sure she had found the perfect dog for her son, and this would be the best friend that Connor needed. When she brought Ellie home, Connor and Ellie hit it off immediately and quickly became best friends.
Even with Connor’s struggles with motor skills, Ellie seems to understand exactly what he’s trying to say.
The pair have quickly become completely inseparable. They have all kinds of fun playing tug of war, running up and down the slide in the back yard and cuddling on the couch together. Mom considers it such a blessing that Connor has someone he can communicate with.
Just look at this adorable relationship between boy and dog. They were truly meant to be.
