Sonoma is a cocker spaniel dog who has lived with the same family ever since he was born. But now that he’s 20 years old, his owner dumped him at the Carson Animal Shelter in California because he was “too old.”
I just don’t understand how somebody could do that. I mean, 20 years – that dog is family, every bit as much as any human children would have been!
But sadly, it happens too often. Older dogs are being dropped off at shelters far too often because of medical expenses, and lack of patience for an elderly dog. But even given all that, staff members at the shelter were shocked when the dog came in.
This poor dog is nearly blind and deaf, and he was confused. He didn’t understand what was happening to him. This place isn’t his home – the only home he had ever known!
Is it any wonder this dog is scared? He obediently walked into the shelter with the one person he has loved and trusted his entire life. He had no idea he would never see her again.
Staff members took a picture of the dog looking so sad, and plastered it on social media. Because of the social media exposure his picture was getting, Frosted Faces Foundation saw it and took immediate action.
