It’s not always easy adopting a rescue dog. Many times these dogs have suffered or been abused in their past, and bonding with them can take a lot of patience, understanding, communication, and time.
Many times they need specialized care and training before they’re ready to be part of a forever, loving family.
When the family adopted an Italian greyhound dog, named Lou, from their local shelter, they were warned that the dog had been abused and would take some time to acclimate. But that didn’t stop them. They welcomed the dog with open arms.
It was a struggle. He was very shy, and would not come near other dogs and strangers. The family wondered what they could do to help him. Finally, they came up with an idea… they’d take the dog on a vacation!
The family thought if the dog had the chance to experience something new and special, it would help him come out of his shell.
They decided to take the dog to their home in the Hamptons for a ritzy vacation.
There was also another dog at their home in the Hamptons that they wanted Lou to meet. They believed the two dogs would have a lot in common, and their dog in the Hamptons would gain his trust, which would then help the dog learn to trust the family.
